Soccer
This was the second time Jonathan had the opportunity to participate in soccer. Back in the fall he did a six week soccer mini camp which he absolutely loved. He hadn't had many opportunities to practice his skills since winter came so this was a good refresher for him.
I thought Jonathan just looked adorable in his little green warm-up outfit. I couldn't believe how prepared some of the kids were. There were several wearing cleats and shin guards. I can't imagine buying cleats for a 3 year old. You don't even know if they are going to like the sport so why buy the stuff?
Jonathan had a lot of fun passing the ball with one of the other little boys. Neither one was very accurate with their kicks so there was a lot of soccer ball chasing going on but they were laughing and having a good time. The coaches tried to play a game of sharks and minnows with the kids but they just aren't that good at dribbling so it didn't work to well but it sure was amusing to watch!

Track and Field
For day 3 of sports camp they learned about track and field. The kids got to try shot put with bean bags, the relay race, and long jump. Unfortunately it was raining that day so they didn't actually get to play on the real track at the local middle school instead they were inside at an elementary school which made for horrible picture lighting.
Here he is just after throwing the "shot put." Notice his follow through, his coach said he has pretty good throwing form. He consistently out threw his peers which make his mom and dad proud.
The relay race was pretty hysterical to watch. The kids didn't really understand why they handed the baton off and stopped running, they wanted to keep following the next runner. The kid who received the baton didn't always remember which way to run and there was always mass confusion about who was on what team and who they were supposed to pass the baton to.
I love this picture! I wasn't trying to capture the motion, and probably couldn't do this again if I was trying, but I think it was a good accident.
The long jump was by far Jonathan's favorite event. And really what boy wouldn't love running and then jumping onto a pile of mats. He was so excited about running and jumping he totally missed the fact that he was supposed to try and land on his feet. I think he managed to land on his feet once and it was mostly by accident.

The River
In an effort to embrace summer for all it has to offer and not spend our evenings sitting around the house bored I decided on a whim that we would spend the evening at the Snake River. We live less than an hour away so its not like its a big journey to get there, we just never remember to do things like that. My plan was complicated a little by the fact that Dan ended up working a littler later than I expected that day. I had our stuff, including food, all ready to go it was just a matter of would he get home in time. When he texted to let me know he was back in cell service, yeah the job he's doing right now is that out in the country, I checked the time and decided there was plenty of time to put my plan in motion. We Dan got home he was handed Jason and asked to buckle him in and get in the car. He was confused but intrigued. We hit McDonalds for McChicken sandwiches (we didn't have the stuff for sandwiches at home and I wasn't going to the store) and headed down to the river.
Jason hasn't had much experience with water other than the bathtub. As you can see he loved being in the water, in fact he was a little too fearless for my taste and we are now in search of a baby lifejacket to have before we get to the Oregon Coast!
Jonathan loved jumping up and down in the water. I wish I'd gotten a better picture but I was enjoying the water too much myself to be too bothered with my camera. He had a lifejacket but at this point I was a little more concerned about Jason (Mr. I don't know my own limits) than I was with Jonathan. Dan told Jonathan that if the number 95 was underwater then he was too far in the water. He did great following the rules.
After Jason got tired of playing in the water (or so cold his lips were turning blue) he dug in the sand with the shovel and ate some sand for a late evening snack. Oops!
Jonathan liked scooping water up in the shovel and throwing it in the air. It caught Dan and I off guard more than once as water fell from the sky on us.
We stayed almost until sundown and went home tired but we had a fantastic time! It was a great warm up for our trip to the beach, where I will attempt to get some pictures of Dan and I just to proove we do still exist!

Bowling
Remember ages ago when I posted about Jonathan playing T-ball at sports camp? I said I'd post about his bowling experience and I never did. In fact I didn't post about sports camp again. Fear not the rest of those posts are coming, soon. Don't laugh I promise they are coming!
Jonathan was pretty excited to go bowling. He's watched us do Wii Bowling so he had a basic idea of what he was getting himself into. He's also played bowling dice, which he loves! I had to explain about bowling shoes several times because he just wasn't understanding why he couldn't just wear his own shoes. I have to say that he looked pretty darn cute in those little bowling shoes!
I don't think he could ham it up more if he tried! He's such a cutie. His coaches goal was to have each kid sit and wait patiently while their teammates got a turn. Patiently didn't work well but they had good intentions. Jonathan was all over the place trying to take in all the action. (Jason was almost impossible to keep track of!)
Jonathan was scaring the heck out of his coach with that bowling ball. Since they are 3 year olds they were using a 7lb ball. Well Jonathan is absolutely fearless and is convinced that there is nothing he's not strong enough to accomplish. As soon as it was his turn he would go running to the ball return and pick his ball up all by himself. His coach kept telling me she was afraid he was going to drop it on his foot and get hurt.
They had these metal ramps that the kids put their bowling balls on and then pushed them down. I though it was poor planning that the bowling alley only had 3 of these for 26 lanes. The kids in the sports camp took up 7 lanes to they had to share which meant there wasn't enough time to actually bowl 10 frames. They also had bumpers up so there were no gutter balls. I had to laugh at the sign at the bowling alley front desk. It read "If you are tall enough to see over the counter and read this sign you are too old for bumpers so don't even ask." I'm sure they get college students in who want to be silly and play with bumpers.
And here is his bowling ball on its way down the lane.
And his final score after 8 frames. A respectable 70. I don't think he would have broken 100 but you never know!

Tall Tower
Wow, sorry for the lack of posting! I'm here and I've been here I just haven't felt like writing much. I guess summer laziness has hit my blog too! I promise I'll try to to better.
A couple of weeks ago Jonathan started building a tower with his blocks. He wanted to make it as tall as him but after knocking it over a couple of times he asked daddy for some help.
And they were able to make a tower that was as tall as Jonathan. Shortly after this picture Jason came plowing in and destroyed this tower but unfortunately I'd put the camera down and missed
getting pictures of that.
But just as tall as Jonathan wasn't good enough, so in true man style they went bigger.
Jonathan really wanted the tower to be as tall as Daddy but Daddy is 6ft tall and we just didn't have enough blocks to make that happen.
Can you tell who is on top of that tower? It's Mater. Jonathan had just watched Tokyo Mater and decided to act that short movie out as best he could. I just love his creativity!

Phone
There is nothing Jason likes more than to play with my cell phone. He texts and makes calls usually leaving the recipient very confused. I don't make a habit of letting him play with it and usually try to keep it out of his reach. Keeping it out of his reach has become much more difficult since he's started climbing. I used to keep it on the back of the couch but he can get there now. I tried the table but he can get there too. I'm thinking my pocket may be the safest place to keep my phone. But I don't always remember that so if I have your number and you get a text or call that makes no sense (or a tweet something that makes no sense) its Jason not me!
If I won't let him play with my phone a toy wrench will work. He'll even pick it up and say hello. It's so cute. I tried to get it on camera but as soon as he sees the camera he just grins at me. Maybe one of these days.

Poor Baby Bear
Then yesterday morning I decided to take his temperature. I'd taken it before and it was up but not much. Well this morning it was 100.7. I knew from talking to the dr previously that if it was under 101 take the wait and see approach. So we waited. We took Jonathan to summer camp and picked up my dad from the airport. After lunch we took his temp again and it was 103 so off to the dr we went. And for the "surprise" of the year Jason has yet another ear infection. So sad.
Then we got to the pharmacy where I just about died. Jason is allergic to penicillin which means he can't have the most common antibiotics for ear infections. He's been off and on omnicief since January and the dr felt like it wasn't quite strong enough to do the trick so we kicked it up a notch. However, this new drug isn't prefered for kids, but Jason can't have the prefered drugs cause he's allergic to penicillin. Since its not prefered our insurance didn't cover it, at all. The pharmacist asked if I really wanted this med. DUH! So $160 dollars later I left the pharmacy with a very foul smelling med. Hopefully this works otherwise we'll start talking tubes.
